Monthly Highlight: KilledWomen

This month, we’d like to highlight the work of Killed Women, a network dedicated to supporting bereaved families of women killed by men and advocating for stronger legal protections. This organisation, founded by grieving mothers Julie Devey and Carole Gould, aims to reform domestic homicide sentencing laws, which often fail to deliver justice.

Their powerful campaign, featuring “Killed Here” plaques on properties where women were murdered, raises awareness of the outdated and discriminatory sentencing practices in the UK. On average, men who kill women in the home receive sentences that are 10 years shorter than those who kill outside the home, a disparity that Killed Women seeks to correct.

As femicide remains a critical global issue, this campaign emphasizes the urgent need to protect women and reform legal systems that devalue women’s lives. Currently, one woman is killed by a man every three days in the UK, often by someone they know. Killed Women continues to advocate for justice, urging the UK government to fulfill its promise of harsher sentences for domestic homicides. Their efforts not only honor the memory of victims but also push for meaningful change, aiming to ensure that future generations of women are better protected.
